The mission of the Museum of Mining and Gothic Art Leogang is to preserve Gothic art and European mining culture for posterity and to engage our audience with this cultural memory.
Our high-profile collection includes outstanding masterpieces of mining and Gothic art like the prayer nut of Mary of Burgundy. The museum is also reputed for its restitutions of European cultural objects, for example looted art.
The goal of our permanent and temporary exhibitions is to stress the beauty of the exhibits and to engagingly tell their stories. In order to show our visitors the medieval handicrafts in practice, a painting and wood carving workshop has been set up and a medieval forge reactivated.
Our museum emphasises highest quality in its exhibitions, working methods and personal knowledge transfer, which has resulted in excellent international standing and prestige. Our distinguished special exhibitions in cooperation with important European museums are evidence of this.
