Saints – the miners’ helpers
The miners’ chapel in Hütten is dedicated to St. Anna. Anna, the mother of Maria, was thegiver of silver. In the Middle Ages, Maria was compared with the moon, the planet that signifies silver, whereas Jesus was the sun – gold.
The entrance tunnel into the show mine is consecrated to St. Barbara, one of the 14 helpers inneed. She is the patron saint of miners because faith in her keeps away sudden death and protects the miners during their dangerous work.
Moreover, seen in her was the saviour of need and danger. The exit tunnel is dedicated to St. Daniel. In the
scriptures, Daniel was revered as a hero in the exile of the Israelis to Egypt. Along his life of suffering, as in the story of „Daniel in the lion’s den“, he acquired clairvoyant abilities. That is why he is said to help in the search for minerals.
