Leogang Mining Museum - Look history in the face

Awaiting visitors in the mining museum, the old administrator’s building in Hütten, are numerous stories, as well as the history of mining in the region at every turn.
              .

The one-of-a-kind collection of Gothic Saint sculptures from all over the alpine region, forms the centrepiece in the underground museum extension. The faces of the Saints tell visitors stories of the miners’ hope and suffering. Look closely and let them touch you. Furthermore, each year there is a special exhibition for you to visit.
In the lovingly renovated administrator’s building, each room has a different theme. On the ground floor you can see different excerpts from the history of Leogang, the mining village.
The “Hoyerstube” commemorates the leaders of the miners, who had to leave their homeland on account of their Lutheran doctrine.
Get a very different impression in the simple kitchen of a miners’ house. See the display of everyday appliances on the first floor, showing evidence of the miners’ hard work. Discover the “Gewerkenstube”, the room where the mine’s administrator resided. Learn about the mining of ore in Leogang.
Finally, the mineral cabinet provides a comprehensive overview of the second richest discovery site in Austria. Several exhibits were even Napoleon’s war booty and are on loan from the Paris Natural History Museum today.
